UNIT COMMANDERS REPORT
Ray Newman – Kapitan
Roman Rodionivich Neman
Privet comrades and welcome to the first edition for 2009. The unit had a busy event season last year and it plans to be no less busy in 2009 with two new events including our own trench system at Kelvendon Hatch and a return to Bovingdon tank museum after a two-year absence, but more later.
I would like to announce three new members who have joined our ranks:
On behalf of the 2nd Guards Rifle Division may I welcome Bob, Jamie and Chris to a long and fruitful membership.
A note to add is that
the AGM Results & Reports for 2008 are in the newsletter.

Kelvendon
Hatch – 16/17th May
– Bunker Bash, Essex. – We have our very own
trench system dug for us with us finishing it off, as
we know best. This show is getting bigger every year and the 2nd Guards plans
to support its rise. This plans to be a fantastic living history event with
lots of other attractions such as Militaria stalls, traders and other re-enactment
groups.
The scenario is set in 1943 so the Obr35 pattern uniform should be worn. I
will have some unit Obr35 gyms with me. It would be really helpful if you
arrived as early as you can on the Friday.
Please help and support your unit by making this a memorable living history
event by attending in numbers.
A
Good Turmout Needed
Bovingdon Tank Museum – June 27/28th
– Dorset. Living history at the tank museum with free visits. We return
to this show after a two year absence which plans to be an enjoyable one with
a T34 on our static display.
The scenario is set in 1944 so the Obr43 uniform should be worn.
Kelmarsh Hall – 25/26th July
- Leicestershire – This Multi Period event is getting bigger and better
every year with lots to see and do. We have more area to set out our camp
and scenario with more scope to use our big Russian tents to great effect
including one for the Banya! There are also number of interesting stalls on
site selling a wide variety of goods that may be of interest.
Our last visit to Kelmarsh Hall saw unit members taking part as French Resistance
fighters for the Western Front battle, which included some members of the
parachute regiment dropping out of the sky onto the battlefield.
This is a truly re-enactors event where we are not competing with vehicles
or Militaria stalls so have a fantastic opportunity to devise a unique living
history display, but we need you to support your unit and attend this event
in large numbers so mark this event down on your calendar because you will
have a great time.
This is a 1944 scenario so the Obr43 pattern uniform must be worn.
Please Support this Event, as we need a BIG
TURNOUT. The 2nd Guards Rifle Division Needs You!!
Peak Rail – 8/9th August – This
relaxing event is set in South Derbyshire beside a vintage railway and its
carriages. Our living history display also includes dugouts/trenches and a
public battle with free weapons hire! This event usual takes place the first
weekend of August.
Military Odyssey - 29/30/31st August – Kent –
This is the biggest event of the year for the unit as we are part of the Eastern
Front public battle which included a T34 tank, a YAK fighter and Red Army
troops, not forgetting a Tiger Tank! Each event gets better so this one should
be no exception! I can confirm that we will have the T34 and the Yak in our
battle display.
This is a 1944 scenario so the Obr43 pattern uniform is to be worn.
We need a large attendance from everyone to
make this the best show to date so PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR UNIT, the 2nd GUARDS
RIFLE DIVISION.
September-Victory show – Date and scenario TBA.
September- Kelvendon Hatch – Date and scenario TBA.

at our web site as I am making changes all the time, trying to improve and
add things so that we have the best-looking site. If you have any ideas for
any improvements then please let me know.
I am currently working on the 2006 Galleries so keep checking.
RED
ARMY UNIFORM REGULATIONS
These are standard Red Army regulations and practises so they must be observed
and will be checked at the morning parade.
COLLAR LINER:
A clean white-collar liner inside the collar of both the Obr35 and Obr43 Gym.
NEEDLE & THREAD: A needle & thread pinned on the inside of your pilotka
flap with white/khaki cotton thread wrapped around the needle.
HAIR CUT: Back and sides of hair must be cut short above the ears and with
no side burns. Hair on top is permitted but the back and sides must be shaved
to at least a number 2. If unsure look at the pictures below.
* If your hair is too long and therefore unauthentic of our portrayal of Red
Army troops during 1941-1945 then it would be unfair on your comrades who
have made the effort to have the correct hair cut for you to take part in
the event. You have purchased the uniforms and kit so get your haircut or
otherwise we might as well wear jeans on the other side of our perimeter!
You must observe the HAIR CUT REGULATIONS.

Report
Well 2008 was a busy year for the unit with many exciting and memorable times
so 2009 looks just as good with two new events. Please support the unit as
numbers do make a difference in our scenario, theme and impression on the
organisers and public alike.
On a personal note, Andy will be doing the cooking at events for a little
while as I have a problem with my arm at the moment but I can assure everyone
that once recovered then I will be back!
Cheers Lez
Personal note
from the U/C.
Please support your unit and comrades as much possible because we need a large
turnout at many of the events to make our scenarios work, plus we are involved
in many exciting activities, including trench combat and public battle displays,
and on top of that, the shows have lots to see. A perfect recipe for a great
weekend.
Welcome to our on-line news letter, the KZ, Your newsletter is on its was via the post, but in the meantime, here is a snapshot of it.

See you in the field.
